Overland Park Kansas chiropractic care is the treatment that is done by trained professionals called chiropractors. These people are trained to use hand manipulation to align misplaced and dislocated vertebrae  and muscles along the spine. Chiropractic is an old practice that has been used for a long time. Many traditional physicians have applied the wisdom of chiropractic in treating their patience from as early as 357 BC.


















460- 357 BC


According one of an ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates; chiropractic care was very important. In some of his texts he wrote; “Get knowledge of the spine , for this is requisite for many diseases.  He therefore acknowledge that mastering the art of chiropractic care was one of the best way to better understand and treat diseases.


2700-1500 BC


Ancient Chinese and Greek writings mentioned the treatment that was done by the manipulation by hand of the lower back as a method of relieving pain. These writing in essence trace some of the earliest roots of chiropractic care in the Asia and parts of the Mediterranean.


In the 1800s


By the late 1800s the chiropractic care was slowly taking shape as a discipline that was instrumental in treating and relieving pain. In 1895 Daniel David palmer of USA performed the very first chiropractic adjustment on a deaf janitor who later reported that he it had improved his hearing. D.D. Palmer founded the first chiropractic  school; Palmer school of Chiropractic. This school has continued to be one of prominent chiropractic schools even today.  The influence of chiropractic has since continued to develop and many myths have been shed since then.


In 1900s


Contentions about the place of chiropractic was put to test in 1907, when one chiropractor was charge for practicing osteopathic medicine without a license. This contentions pitted the mainstream physician with the emerging chiropractors and the similarities of their technique. Many chiropractors where jailed including D.D. Palmer. In 1913, following a successful political campaign, chiropractic obtained a separate licensing statute in all the fifty states of the US.  By 1975 there were talks in the National Institutes of Health on the need for research into chiropractic practices. Though battled with some controversy, chiropractic gained a lot of scholarly interest in the 1990s.


2000s


Over the years chiropractic has met with mixed perception but still maintains a place in medicine. Some of the professional in the medical field consider it “unscientific”.  The debate of mixers versus straight chiropractic has also played for some time. these are those who think that chiropractic should be practiced as a pure discipline and those that want it to mixed with other methods of conventional medicine. In the recent past many chiropractic organizations have accepted scientific principles in public health.

It will be interesting to see where this discipline is likely to lead to next. Currently there are thousands of chiropractors licensed to operate.
